Hope for Boston's Homeless
Frank and Lois Gould first got involved with the recovery community many years ago, having children and siblings who struggle with addiction. They decided to get educated in order to help their family and loved ones.
The Goulds began by attending a support group for parents and loved ones of those who struggle with addiction, eventually facilitating the group, Learn2Cope in Cambridge. During that time they had the opportunity to meet and talk to many families and those who are directly affected by addiction, learning that addiction is a family disease. The couple stays involved because of the tremendous need in the community.
The Stoneham Coalition offered the opportunity to get involved locally with education surrounding addiction. Through monthly meetings and outreach at community events, the Coalition has made a difference.
What started as a group of friends who were delivering food and clothing to the unfortunate homeless people in downtown Boston has become Hope for Boston’s Homeless, a grassroots organization formed to address the very real needs of those living on the streets and struggling with their addiction. They meet downtown at least once per month, walk the streets giving out necessities, including food, clothing and recovery information, to those they find sleeping in doorways and sitting on sidewalks. The group has been overwhelmed by the generosity of Stoneham and surrounding communities in donating to the cause. It is a very gratifying way to give back and try to help those struggling to seek recovery and also know that there are many who care about their welfare.
